Why couples sessions cost more
In couples counselling, I’m working with two people, two histories and the relationship between you, all at once. Each session takes careful attention to both partners so neither of you feels left out or unheard. Couples work also draws on specialized training, like Transformative Couples Therapy®, and more time between sessions to prepare and keep track of both perspectives. The fee reflects that added depth, and it covers support for both of you in a single session.
Sliding scale
A limited number of reduced-rate spots, typically $60–$100, are held for low-income clients for both individual and couples sessions. Ask during your free consultation.
Insurance & direct billing
Most extended health plans cover counselling with a Master Therapeutic Counsellor (MTC). I direct bill with Sun Life and insurers connected to Telus Health eClaims. The insurers listed here, and many employer benefit plans, cover part or all of your sessions.
Questions to ask your insurer
Do you cover a Master Therapeutic Counsellor (MTC) or Clinical Counsellor?
What’s my annual amount, and how much is left?
Is couples counselling covered under my plan?
Do I need a doctor’s referral?

Most individual clients start with 50 minutes. I recommend 80 minutes for couples, so both partners have room to be heard.
